Paradip Port is major port in the Eastern region of India. The main attraction of the port is that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the port in the year 1962. The construction work started in 1964 and the article was the part of the Orissa Government during this duration
The port started its function with Iron Ore and late on added products as Thermal Core, Chrome Ore, Reefer Cargo and many more. There are different facilities for the users; the number of bucket wheel reclaimers is four in numbers. Nearly 20000tonnes of loading is undertaken on the Port. The container handling facility is also prominent at the Port; a reasonable number of containers can easily adjust in the port which helps in fulfilling the requirements of the exporter and importers. The storage facility is also one of the remarkable features of the Port. The Port has Open Stack Yards which are well connected with Railways and Roadways. The Port is efficiently using Cranes and Trucks for loading and unloading; sometimes private equipments are also used if required.
The port is fully set with approximately 14 berths. Different projects are in the pipeline as deepening of the channel and enhancing the draught at the existing dock system. The other projects are to construct a deep draught Iron Ore and Coal Berth on BOT basis along with adding of new dock system and developing the western dock system. The connectivity channels of railways and roadways are also in the pipeline wherein the Government is working in the direction of improving the efficiency of the port.
